        "Courageous Practices for your Retirement Plan"   

               Speakers: Monica Barnard & Eric Nager

                            

Overview:   

The presentation will benefit HR managers and their companies by providing a refresher and overview of:

1.      The Dept. of Labor regulations that went into effect in 2012 and the reporting requirements of it.  What is the current retirement plan landscape, what are the fiduciary responsibilities of a trustee for such a plan, and what are courageous/best practices?

2.      A survey of qualified retirement plans, to include IRA, SEP, SIMPLE, 401(k), Profit Sharing, ESOP, etc.  What are the characteristics and advantages/disadvantages of each?  Exploration of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and the provisions as they pertain to plan providers.

Monica Barnard, owner of Barnard & Associates Retirement Plan Specialists, LLC, has over 25 years of experience in retirement plan administration and consulting.  Barnard & Associates Retirement Plan Specialists, LLC provides administrative services for 401k, Pension and Profit Sharing Plans, focusing on small businesses. Monica is:

The First person in the Pensacola area to become an Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) with IRS.

The First person in the Pensacola area to earn Accredited Pension Administrator (APA) designation.

The First person in the Pensacola area to earn Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation.

She received her bachelor's in Mathematics from the University of West Florida in 1979.  She has seven years’ experience teaching Math and Computer Science in public and private schools.

Eric Nager is an Investment Advisor Representative with Southern Capital Services where he has worked since 2000 after several years in the publishing industry. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of South Alabama and a Masters in History (ALM) from Harvard. In 2014 he earned the designation of Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS®) from the College for Financial Planning.

Eric serves on the boards of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of South Alabama, and the University of South Alabama Gift Planning Council and is a member of Baldwin County’s Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM) chapter.  He also is a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve, an adjunct faculty at Huntingdon College, and coaches the chess team at Bayside Academy in Daphne.  He is author of Checklist for Checkmate: 15 Keys to Building a Successful Team and co-author of Retirement Rescue: A Primer on How to Help Keep Your Retirement Afloat.
